What is Ethernet-APL?

What is it?

Ethernet-APL (Advanced Physical Layer) is a new physical layer for Ethernet communication, developed specifically for the process industry. It transmits data (10 Mbit/s) and supplies power over a single standard two-wire cable over long distances (up to 1000 m) — intrinsically safe for hazardous areas.

Ethernet-APL overcomes the last obstacles to digitalization in process automation. It enables seamless, protocol-independent communication from enterprise to field level, simplifies installation, enables extended device diagnostics, and lays the foundation for IIoT applications.
